Water and wastewater infrastructure specialist Glanua has appointed former Roadbridge Global Chief Executive Conor Gilligan as Managing Director of its Municipal Ireland & UK division.

The appointment brings one of Ireland’s most experienced civil engineering leaders into a key role as investment in water and wastewater infrastructure continues to accelerate across both Ireland and the UK.

In his new position, Gilligan will lead Glanua’s municipal business, with responsibility for the design, development, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater projects delivered for public authorities across both markets.

Glanua specialises in the delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure, providing engineering, construction, operations and maintenance services to public and private sector clients.

Gilligan brings more than 30 years’ experience in the construction and civil engineering sector. He spent 31 years with Roadbridge Civil Engineering Contractors, including almost two decades as Global Chief Executive, before leaving the company in early 2022.

Since then, he has served as Chief Executive Officer of Derrin Group for more than two years before taking on a principal role with GEC8 Construction Ltd for an eight-month project.

A graduate of University College Cork and past pupil of St Munchin’s College, Gilligan has led the delivery and operation of major infrastructure projects throughout his career.

Commenting on his appointment, Gilligan said he was joining Glanua at an important time for both the business and its clients.

He said there is increasing demand and investment in water and wastewater infrastructure, particularly within the public sector, adding that Glanua is well positioned to support clients across Ireland and the UK through the design, development, operation and maintenance of engineering solutions.

Gilligan said he looked forward to working with the company’s teams to continue delivering for clients while building on the foundations already established.

Welcoming the appointment, Glanua Group Managing Director Karl Zimmerer said Gilligan brings extensive experience in the delivery, development and operation of complex engineering and infrastructure projects.

Zimmerer said Gilligan also has a proven track record of successfully leading businesses operating across multiple sectors while serving a diverse client base.

The appointment comes as Ireland continues to prioritise investment in water services infrastructure to support housing delivery, economic growth and environmental compliance, with significant capital programmes planned by Uisce Éireann and local authorities over the coming years. Across the UK, sustained investment in water and wastewater networks is also driving demand for specialist engineering and infrastructure expertise.
